The Active City Brakei technology (automatic urban braking when there is a risk of collision) helps to prevent accidents and reduce the severity thereof in the event of the driver failing to react in time when driving in urban environments at under 30km/h.

A short-range laser sensor (Lidar) fitted at the top of the windscreen detects obstacles such as vehicles travelling in the same direction and stationary vehicles. If necessary, it can automatically trigger full-power braking in order to avoid a collision or limit the impact thereof by reducing the speed of impact. In some cases the system will even automatically bring the vehicle to a complete stop, thus avoiding a potential collision with the vehicle in front.



The PEUGEOT 208 has an ultra-lightweight body structure designed with precision in mind and to both absorb as much energy from various types of impact as possible and minimise their impact on the passengers, vehicles and individuals involved.

This makes for a robust and lightweight vehicle (from 975kg depending on the model) offering improved agility, fuel consumption and driving pleasure.

The PEUGEOT 208 has 6 airbags as standard that help protect its occupants in the event of a collision:

  • 2 frontal airbags to protect the heads and thoraxes of the driver and passenger in the event of a frontal impact.
  • 2 front side airbags to protect the driver and front passenger in the event of a side impact.
  • 2 front and rear curtain airbags to protect the heads of the front and rear passengers.

All 208s come with ESP (Electronic Stability Programme), which can be deactivated, including ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation), DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), EBA (Emergency Brake Assist) and ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and EBFD (Electronic Brake Force Distribution) as standard.

Whether on the dipped beam or main beam setting, when the indicator is activated or the steering wheel reaches a certain angle, this functioni enables the beams of the front fog lights to light the inside of the bend when the vehicle is travelling at under 40km/h (urban conditions, winding roads, junctions, parking manoeuvres, etc.).
